LEVI’S® RIBCAGE Expanding the Highest High Rise Yet

If you’re wondering where waistlines have gone over the last few seasons, the answer is: due north. High-waisted jeans are in, and they show no sign of letting up. This Fall/Winter season you’ll see newness across the whole Levi’s® high rise assortment, which includes the Mile High Super Skinny, the lot 700 high-rise fits:720 High-Rise Super Skinny, 721 High-Rise Skinny, 724 High-Rise Straight and our highest-waisted jean yet — the Ribcage.

The Levi’s® Ribcage family is continuing its march up women’s mid-sections for Fall/Winter 2019. After its popular debut last spring, Levi’s® Ribcage sees an expansion of finishes, fabrications, and silhouettes this season, including a stylish move into cord territory on the Ribcage Straight Ankle, the original Ribcage fit. “How high can we go? The answer is Ribcage high,” says Jill Guenza, VP, Global Women’s Design at Levi’s®. “We’ve been watching people wear their vintage Levi’s® really high and this is the extension (pun intended) of that trend.”

The Ribcage family plays with proportions in the Fall/Winter 2019 season. First up is the Ribcage Straight Full Length—similar to the classic 501®, but with a slimmer waist through the hip and slightly wider leg—down to the ankle. It’s a move away from the super skinny fit of the past, and a move towards the fuller fits of today’s popular trends. In that vein, this season will also see the introduction of the Ribcage Wide Leg, Ribcage Crop Wide Leg and, lastly, the Ribcage Crop and Full Length Flare. All have wider hems than the standard 501® fit for that classic 1940s Katherine Hepburn look.

As mentioned, this season will also see the introduction of corduroy to the Ribcage lineup, a stretch cord that will be available in the Ribcage Straight Ankle. It’s a mix of ‘40s meets ‘70s, with a splash of ‘90s thrown in for good measure. And, perhaps best of all, the entire Ribcage lineup, apart from the Wide Leg, comes in stretch, which means style won’t ever have to come at the cost of comfort. Whether you like wide or narrow, long or cropped, for Fall/Winter 2019, Levi’s® Ribcage has a fit for everyone.

“At 12” rise, the Ribcage is the highest rise ever within our denim fits. We were inspired by and obsessed with ‘90s vintage 501®s – the highest we could find. We built the Ribcage with a slim fit through the hip for a super flattering silhouette that draws attention to the waist, lengthens the legs, and adds instant edge to any look.”—Karyn Hillman, Global Chief Product Officer at Levi Strauss & Co.
