and BMA to Put Thailand’s THB 3.5 Trillion
“Active Silver” Opportunity in the Spotlight

Eldergy Festival 2026 brings together thousands of members in a large-scale demonstration of active ageing, spotlighting the people, participation, and economic potential of Thailand’s 50+ generation.

BANGKOK, 20 October 2026
– As Thailand moves rapidly towards becoming a super-aged society—with older adults projected to represent nearly one-third of the population by 2040—YoungHappy, a social enterprise and membership platform for Thailand’s Active Silver Generation, has announced a major strategic partnership with the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to host "Eldergy Festival 2026."

The landmark partnership aims to advance Thailand’s Active Ageing agenda while calling on businesses, policymakers, and communities to rethink one of the country’s most significant demographic shifts—not simply as a social challenge to manage, but as an opportunity to unlock the economic, social, and human potential of a generation that still has much to contribute.

The event comes at a defining moment for Thailand. Nearly 14 million Thais (21.6% of the population) are aged 60 or over, and the country is expected to become a super-aged society by 2029. This shift carries major economic implications, with senior consumer spending projected to leap from THB 2.18 trillion in 2023 to THB 3.5 trillion by 2033.

To capture this opportunity, Eldergy Festival 2026 will serve as a large-scale demonstration of active ageing in practice. Thousands of older adults who continue to learn, work, build relationships, and live independently will come together to showcase the role their generation plays in driving the economy and society through the YoungHappy platform and ecosystem.

Mrs. Porranee Poobrasert
– Assistant Manager, ThaiHealth Promotion Foundation, and Acting Director, Health Promotion for Vulnerable Population Section, said, "Thailand is undergoing a major demographic transition. ThaiHealth is therefore advancing a strategy that empowers older adults to become an Active Ageing, one that is happy, valued and self-reliant. Our focus goes beyond disease prevention and physical health. We also want to prevent emotional isolation. Building communities and connecting people across generations will strengthen the well-being of Thai society over the long term."

Mr. Sanon Wangsrangboon
, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), said, "Ageing is a defining issue for our city. Promoting and creating employment opportunities for older adults in a major city is one of the BMA's key policy priorities, because we want to turn the wisdom of our seniors into a driving force for the city, both economically and socially. People aged 50+ are not just a large part of the population. They bring potential, experience and wisdom, and they can create value and income for themselves while contributing enormous energy to the economy and society of Bangkok."

Mr. Charkhris Phomyoth
, CEO & Co-Founder of YoungHappy, added, “Today, ageing should be defined by purpose in life, not just a number. Thailand’s shift into an ageing society is not a burden to be managed. It is the nation’s greatest opportunity yet. Our members have already shown that the Active Silver Generation brings experience, time, knowledge and purchasing power, and that they are still ‘happy with life.’ That’s why we moved our starting point from 60 down to 50. It’s the stage of life when people can still change course on their health, skills, finances and relationships.”

The collaboration marks an important milestone in laying the social and economic foundations for Thailand to become a truly "Active & Healthy Ageing Society."

Reframing Longevity: Moving Beyond the Conventional Senior Segment

For YoungHappy, these numbers point to a much bigger opportunity than the conventional “senior segment.” Unlocking this potential requires businesses, policymakers, communities, and families to look beyond age and create more ways for people to learn, work, connect, contribute, and live well throughout longer lives—forming the foundation of a Healthy Longevity Economy that grows alongside long, high-quality lives.

For nearly a decade, YoungHappy has been Thailand's largest community platform for the new generation of older adults, shifting perceptions of ageing from "less" to "more." Today, it reaches over 150,000 people across digital channels, has more than 30,000 active members, and generates around 300,000 participations a year across six key areas: learning, shopping, health, travel, finance, and food.

Operating under a hybrid B2B, B2C, and B2G model, YoungHappy does not rely on donations. Instead, it functions as a sustainable social enterprise connecting the Active Silver Generation with partners through three core services:
  • Silver Insight: Deep consumer research and behavioral insights on the 50+ demographic.
  • Silver Experience & Trial: Co-designing and testing senior-centric products and services.
  • Silver Community Partnership: Building authentic, long-term brand engagement with active senior networks.

Measurable Impact and Regional Ambitions

To address social challenges where 6.6 million older Thais remain in the workforce, 1.7 million live alone, and 30.3% experience severe loneliness, YoungHappy developed the YoungHappy Index with the Faculty of Nursing, Mahidol University. Assessing outcomes across Body, Mind, and Community, a study of 1,144 participants revealed that members forged an average of 18 new friendships, while 87% felt more independent and self-reliant.

Looking forward, YoungHappy aims to expand its reach to 200,000 users, leverage technology for personalized user experiences, and scale its model into Vietnam and Malaysia to ensure longer lives across the region come with good health, purpose, and economic participation.
